Allied Therapy News for March- Discovering the Wonders of the Ocean!

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

This month we have fun ocean-themed activities the whole family can take part in.

The best part is you can support your child’s learning and therapy goals while also having fun using our suggested games and activities!

Gross Motor Activity

There are many wonderful creatures that can be found in the sea and the ocean. Trying to copy them is a great way to work on your balance, coordination, and sensory regulation. You can even turn it into a game of charades! Here are some examples: swim like a fish, stretch like a starfish, jump like a dolphin, splash like a whale, wobble like a jellyfish, glide like a stingray, sway like a coral, walk like a crab, slither like an eel, wiggle like an octopus, chomp like a shark, paddle like a turtle, waddle like a penguin, clap like a seal.

Fine Motor and Craft Activity

Draw and/or color different ocean and sea creatures, cut them, and add a paperclip on each of them. Next, make your own fishing pole by using any kind of rod or stick, some string or yarn, and a small magnet. Scatter the fish on the floor, pretend it’s the ocean, and fish away! You can also make your creatures out of cutout sponges or pool noodles instead of paper and do the fishing activity in a tub or basin with water! And instead of paperclips and a magnet, you can attach hoops on the creatures and make a hook on your fishing pole using pipe cleaners.

Speech and Language Activity

Use the same fishing activity above and tape pictures or words on the sea creatures that you wish to practice with your child. Each time they catch a sea creature, they need to say the word or identify the picture out loud.
