This month we have fun forest-themed activities the whole family can take part in.
The best part is you can support your child’s learning and therapy goals while also having fun using our suggested games and activities!
Gross Motor Activity
Have a race or play a game of charades while moving like animals.
Walk like a bear, hope like a bunny, slither like a snake, leap like a frog,
crawl like a turtle, or gallop like a deer!
Fine Motor Activity
Attach a photo or a drawing of a squirrel to a cup and pretend pompoms are acorns. Feed the squirrel by picking up acorns and putting them inside the cup. You can use your fingers, tools like tweezers or tongs, or even practice using eating utensils in picking up the acorns. To make the game more exciting, you can spread or hide the acorns around the room.
Speech and Language Activity
Attach large photos or drawings of animal heads to boxes and cut out the mouth portion. Prepare small cutout squares with pictures or words that you would like to practice. Pretend these squares are food and use them to “feed” the different animals. You can practice choosing and requesting for the “food” to feed the animal, requesting which animal to feed, and describing what they ate.
Book and Game of the Month
Play Foxy Pants by Goliath
Read The Sharing Circle by Theresa Larsen-Jonasson
